A club house in Patan, Gujarat - Semester 5 (Institutional Studio)

The club house was to be designed in a site with an area of 6300 sq. meters. There were adjacent buildings to the west and east side, 9 meter wide road towards the south and a lake towards the north.

Keeping in mind the historical importance of the lake, I derived the concept from the steps of Rani-ki-Vav, another major historical site in Patan. As the steps of Rani-ki-Vav descend to the sacred waters, I visualised this building as steps ascending and reaching out towards the lake. It was also important to make the users feel connected to the lake. This is why I made an effort to keep the building transparent to the lake view.

Due to the gradual increase in the floor area with each storey, the building has cantilevered elements all around it. In order to preserve its form without complications of supporting elements, I made some of the central walls out of RCC so that they would act as individual columns for subsequent floors.
