Users apply light downwards pressure on the thumb plate and also on a piece under the palm of the hand. This, coupled with the equal upwards pressure created by the main body of the piece, is where the rigidity of the structure stems from, allowing control of the utensil with minimal effort.
Different utensils can be attached to the main body using the rails mounted underneath the thumb plate.

Arthritic Eating Utensil

This was a design for need project. I have family who suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I wanted to design a piece of cutlery for sufferers, which requires no movement in the joints of the hands, as this is where pain and swelling is centralized.
