3D models of the "Type A" staircase were developed to ensure the design fitted the Architects concept.
The "Type A" staircase was the base to all other type staircases (B, C, D and E). This was the 1st staircase to be modelled. The other versions were then based off of this version.
The drawing shows the general layout of the I-beam columns, finish floor levels, and landing dimensions. Also some notations showing a key directing the manufacturing team to other detailed drawings of areas they need to see.

Information for the site team on how the I-beams are to be connected to each other and to the ground. Some of the columns had to be split to make them easier for transportation. The I-beams were fixed to the ground using chemical anchors.
Each staircase had a bridge which had to be designed and manufactured as a separate entity. Each bridge on each staircase was slightly different due to the inconsistencies of the angle on which it is fixed to on the already completed podium.
Structural steel GA drawings were produced to give the team on site an indication of how many balustrades are required in which areas. This also aided them when assembling the structure.

The flooring of the staircase was chosen to be high grip, but to also allow people wearing high heels to comfortably walk over them.

Draughting Project - Olympic Stadium

The company won the job to manufacture 7 staircases for the West Stand in the London Olympic Stadium. A 3D model had to be created using Autodesk Inventor. GA and FAB drawings were then developed for manufacture and assembly.
