Cherry Crest Elementary, Bellevue, WA
The redevelopment project of this existing elementary school utilizing developing technology makes it as the most energy-efficient building in the district. The design solutions focus in providing maximum student learning experiences and preserving the environment. Nestled in the woods, the outdoor places offer students to embrace the nature. The sand playfield is utilized as geo-thermal heating and cooling system that eliminates the burning of fossil fuel on site. The courtyard inside the building gives students opportunity to observe rain water movement from roof to the rain garden at the back of the school to recharge groundwater. The rooftop garden is utilized as green roof and another student learning opportunity.
