Wood Joinery Ritual
First semester design project.
A wood block which was able to unfold from a 9"x 9" cube into an 18"x18" one was used to tell a story through the variance of space it created. Different types of complex wood joinery were evolved through a semester-long study of patterns and 'rituals'. Beginning first with Islamic tessellations and then applying learned principals of overlay, opacity, adjacency, reflection, and rotation an everyday ritual was chosen to be described through the unfolding of a wood block.
