I love fall, forests, flannel, and the color orange, so I had a fantastic time making this lumberjack games that uses logs and autumn leaves to teach symmetry.
Sammy Tree is your lumberjack guide through the world of symmetry. The voice actor did such a wonderful job helping to bring Sammy to life.
Like most of my game projects for ABCya since 2020, I did all of Sammy and his fox friends' animations in Spine 2D.
The gameplay screen in the regular symmetry portion of the game.
Sammy gently lets you know if you got a question wrong.
Celebration animations are always a good time.
There's also a part of the game that teaches rotational symmetry.
The bonus game reinforces what you've learned by having you chop logs along their line of symmetry.
Chop 'til you drop!
The endscreen is a peaceful celebration in the woods with some marshmallows roasting over a glowing fire.
Everybody needs a fox friend to share their marshmallows with.
I had a sizable dose of nostalgia making this pixel art game about constellations that took me right back to my Galaga days.
Constellation Station has gone dark and it's up to 4 astro-pilots to reconnect the constellations and get the power back on.
When you successfully recreate the constellation, the illustration appears.
Unlock skilled pilots, cool ships, and more complicated constellations as you play through the game.
When you complete all of the constellations, the station powers up again.
As a big fan of mythology since I was a kid, it was so much fun to follow the stars and create all of these designs.
I wanted to try my hand at isometric illustration with this game. I really tried to push the color palettes as much as possible to create different moods for each world.
The game is split into four different levels that you unlock as you play. The fourth can only be unlocked by completing the other three.
The object of the game is to go through each world and identify the different shapes in everyday objects.
The music in this game, created by Joe Grilli, is also very peaceful and lovely. It really sets the mood in each place.
Lily Pad Pond is an animated storybook for which I was able to illustrate, animate, and also do a lot of writing.
This was my first deep foray into animating and using Spine 2D.
I had a great time figuring out all of their different expressions and movement.
It was quite a challenge to try to find a way to make a "cute" representation of a tadpole.
Throughout the story, the tadpoles get older, so I needed to illustrate, rig, and animate multiple different versions of the characters.
Break The Bank is a game I illustrated for ABCya that teaches the different types and values of United States currency. You smash animated piggy banks and then count or sort the currency you find.
The most time-consuming part of the game was creating currency that was stylized and kid-friendly but still as accurate as possible.
The most fun part of illustrating this game was coming up with the different themed piggy-banks.
Submarine Spelling Practice was the first game I made for ABCya. I had so much fun making it, especially all of the different backgrounds as you go deeper and deeper into the ocean.
An octopus reaches up to grab the vowels you click on after you've spelled a word correctly.
The kelp sways so peacefully in this level of the game.
As thanks for all the tasty vowels, the octopus gives you a treasure chest full of coins at the end of the game.
