A Bed to Call Home
"A Bed to Call Home" is a thesis project that I spent 6 months on in 2011-12. I chose to focus on designing a product that would contribute to the efforts of ending the homelessness problem in Philadelphia. I visited many homeless shelters and transitional housing facilities, took part in street outreach programs and spoke with countless members of the Project H.O.M.E. staff, volunteers, homeless people, and survivors. I found that one of the biggest problems was trying to keep people coming back to the shelters long enough for them to move on to a transitional housing facility and on up. I then set a goal to design a bed that would create a more comfortable and secure experience for guests staying at a shelter.
