Yaxkin Hotel - The design for the Yaxkin (place of renewal) hotel room was based on a desert landscape. The hotel provides refuge from the harsh elements of the desert as well as a vantage point from which the vast sprawling beauty of the desert landscape could be observed. A wooden poster bed and wooden rafters provide a subtle sense of verdure amidst the arid backdrop. The aforementioned wooden materials, in juxtaposition with a metal fireplace & a wall-mounted flat panel TV. create the perfect balance of Classic and sleek contemporary
Fumisterie - Fumisterie was designed to be an establishment where artists and bohemians would be able to congregate, eat, socialize, and perform in an atmosphere characterized by creative energy, warm colors and lush décor. The space was designed with multiple spatial regions in order to accommodate the various needs of its patrons. The inspiration for this project was Le Moulin Rouge (The Red Windmill), a cultural landmark from a unique period in French history (1898) where artists gathered to dance, sing and perform. The premise of Le Moulin Rouge materialized in several ways with regard to the design of Fumisterie. For example, the rounded bar at Fumisterie is based on the shape and sense of movement embodied by the windmill and would act as the centerpiece of the space. Also, the suspended sofas hanging from the ceiling were inspired by the stages on which cabaret dancers gave their famed performances.
Eco-Home - The inspiration for this project was rooted in various sources, the first being the owners name, Wanbli, meaning “ Eagle”. Other influences included the round houses of the Pomo Indians and a structural abstraction of the teepee. The house is divided into five principal areas. At its center is a multi-functionas stone pillar which acts as a structural support, a solar store, a service duct zand a hearth for the living room. Off center is the drumming circle, both a figurative representation of the heart of the eagle, and a functional actualization of the heart of the house. The eagle’s wings manifest in the home’s eastern and western regions. The east side houses the entrance, master bedroom and bathroom with sauna and the west houses the kithchen, formal dining room, mud room and guest bathroom. The fourth component is the tail, created by an overhang simulating feahters and materializing functionally as a meditation terrace/garden. Finallly, at the head of the eagle is the library, complemented by a hidden spiral staircase leading to Wanbli’s meditation chamber.

Eventide - The eventide lamp was inspired by the sunset. Using bass wood for the frame and tinted acrylic panels to diffuse and filter the light emitted from the bulb, I was able to capture a colored lighting effect comparable to the hues of the setting sun. The design of the lamp also provides an extended decorative effect by casting a tinted pattern
