Iceland Tower Competition

Grjótagjá Cave Observation Tower and Visitor Center.
Iceland is a unique place where two tectonic plates come apart thus forming multiple volcanos. The concept of the tower is a tribute to this condition. Two large prismatic volumes coming apart symbolize tectonic plates with a space in between filled with water like in Grjótagjá cave. The main façade of the building oriented to face the incoming traffic, invokes a section through a volcano with alternate layers of solidified lava and volcanic ash.
