Re-Designing Mark Newson’s Apollo Torch
In my opinion, one of the most iconic current product designers is Mark Newson. He has worked along a range of design disciplines from yacht design to sculpture pieces. My project was to re-design one of my favourite Newson products. When approaching the project my aims were to base each addition of the torch on a particular design movement and an design from that era. I started with some basic plan and perspective sketches before rendering the designs using marker pens. I then went on to develop the torches in CAD form (Pro-Desktop) before selecting my favourite three designs to model up in foam and a pine wood block.
