Design Ethics - Door Wedge

Inclusive Design:

At present, door wedges are often problematic when keeping doors open. The need to force the wedge or foot underneath the door requires the user to bend down and move it around to ensure it stays open which can become irritating and uncomfortable for many groups of people and at there aren’t any products on the market that addresses this issue.

From personal experience, there are many materials that have been developed and used such as wood, rubber and plastic but not all are effective and fully functional. Smoother materials/textures can cause the door to shut again and organic forms make it harder to push under the door. Perhaps the issue is also due to the texture and surface area that is in contact with the floor.

Therefore, I will test materials, forms and textures to identify which is the best gripping onto different flooring and doors. Furthermore, I will conduct research into how I can develop a doorstop to prevent the user from bending down.
