Corque Vessel and Utensil - Holding and drinking out of a cup have been the start of everyone’s morning. Usually people would have a warm cup of tea, coffee or even cereal in a cup to get something in their body while trying to get ready for work or school.
One problem with cups is that they all look alike now days. A cup needs to be designed to show some new shape or some sort of stretched feature of an existing product-shape, handle, color, texture, and material. An issue with cups is that they are used so carelessly people do not care how they function anymore. As long as the vessel holds liquid they are satisfied. Cups should bring back the warm feeling and more sentimental value of the morning cup of Jo.
With the Corque all these issues would be resolved and make mornings feel more comforting.
The concept of using materials that weren’t commonly used together was what I wanted to do. The design should have a contemporary smooth single color finish with a contrast of a rustic natural grain look.
I remember seeing television stands that has a black surface but the actual material is a light brownish tan color which I found to be a good contrast. Because San Francisco and the Bay Area are turning “Green” I decided that I should follow the trend and use recycled material. With that in mind I knew I wanted Black to be the main color and the contrasting material to be Cork.
