As part of my study abroad experience in Florence, I took a sketching and drawing class. Throughout the semester the students were taught drawings techniques and went out into the city to draw. A final portfolio of drawings was prepared for this class.
One of the difficulties this class helped me overcome was choosing which of the fine details I wanted to show in my drawing. There was no way to sketch every detail the buildings or spaces had to offer in the allotted class time, so I had to choose which details would give the right impression.
