Cherchbi. 2014. Small Leather Goods.
Cherchbi small leather goods exhibit a modern, refined aesthetic. In use their function is intuitive. The pared-down design approach allows the qualities inherent in the leather to the fore.
Each piece is hand-cut and stitched in England using vegetable-tanned saddle leather. This material originates from Northern Irish cow hide and is pit-tanned by Joseph Clayton of Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The hides are suspended in a tree-bark tannin solution for many weeks. This ancient process has remained essentially unchanged for millennia.
All Cherchbi leather goods use the original surface of the hide; the top grain. Individual marks and creases are retained, natural inconsistencies that differentiate each hide and make each leather item unique. Finished with a light wax the leather surface will begin to shine beautifully with continued use.
