orb - The final degree project analyses the correlations
between nature, material, human beings and design.
Fascinated by the characteristics of bendable solid wood called bendywood® a piece of furniture was
designed. Inspired by natural shapes and through material experiments, I created a sculpture which adjusts itself to the human body. It offers freedom of movement and plays with body balance. The spherical shape and resilience of the material requires balancing movements which have positive effects to the spine and torso.
The name ORB links to the spherical geometry of the chair which can be recognised by its four bars of wood.
The simple assembling emphasizes the coherence
between design and material.
