Barnhouse Eelderwolde
Eelderwolde Barnhouse
The Netherlands, 2008. Schuurhuis Eelderwolde. A very long barn-house with a beautifully constructed roof. Net zero energy concept.
Situation
Private family is looking to build a house in between an old farm and modern architecture.
Target
Create a contemporary house and office that blends traditional forms with modern architecture.
Action
Reinterpretation of a classic barn. Create a large and expressive roof that provides shelter to both living and working. Don’t be afraid to use traditional shapes: they stand out by themselves.
Result
A remarkable modest, yet characteristic house. The roof embraces a small office building and a private house, leaving space in between for car park, children’s play and family events. Uses no energy whatsoever due to a very efficient building lay-out and installations concept.
