Cover, Metropolitan Magazine, April 2000
San Francisco, Metropolitan Magazine invited me to design & produce 6 pieces for their “spring fashion" issue, and asked me to take inspiration from the 1975 Diana Ross film, Mahogany. My designs, which were photographed at "The Werepad" in S.F.'s Dog Patch neighborhood were featured on the cover and in a 4 page spread of the April, 2000 issue.
I wanted to represent the mood and character of Tracy Chambers (played by Ross) simultaneously. Using Nude faux ultra suede, Day glow red ultra light lambs wool jersey, and a crisp navy nylon double knit jersey, I created the 5 pieces. The end result was an oversized nylon double knit hand bag with large braided suede handles and bottom, a nylon A line skirt with suede detail set into a soft wool waistband, a matching 20's derby cap, and a very revealing low scoop cut away tank in soft wool jersey, a soft wool lined suede skull cap, and a moody suede halter dress with raw edges, cut out chest details, and asymmetric high cut hem.
