Olma Poster

Olma is an annual farming and agriculture exhibition held every fall in St. Gallen, Switzerland. During my semester at the GBS Schule fur Gestaltung in St. Gallen, one of our projects was to design a poster for Olma that would run as large scale advertisements throughout the city as well as the overall visual identity for the festival. Swiss poster design is well known throughout the world and so Olma has a rich tradition of posters dating back to the 1940s.

My goal with the poster was to merge the history of the exhibition with modern aesthetics and technology. I used hand drawn type to represent Swiss traditions and folk art. By layering the type over an image of cows grazing in the Alps, the photograph begins to function as a texture and gives the poster depth and intrigue. The large size of the type and the bold color evoke the exuberance of the festival.
