Initial Forms - In designing a new concept for the Wii controller, I looked at the history of Nintendo controls, as well as a system of control mechanisms. From my initial ideation, I decided to pursue controllers based on guitars or a twisting motion.
Nintendo Controller Concepts - I distilled the results of my form studies into concepts that I felt best illustrated the specific features I was looking for. I selected the twist-style controller because I felt that it best fit with the Nintendo ethos based on form and the intuitiveness of the twist motion. WACOM and Photoshop.
Final Concept - The controller uses a touch-sensitive d-pad, macro pad, and shoulder tabs for input. The user can also pull back a tab to expose an optical eye, allowing the controller to be used as a mouse. Solidworks and Max 8
