Overview - The Dynatek Racing-Dynaformace; Classic Fuel Injection project was based on re-engineering and recreating a classic style of an automotive carburetor to build a modern fuel injection unit with the same vintage look. The only things the Classic Fuel Injection shares with the originals are the shape and ability to utilize older add-ons like velocity stacks. This product was a huge revelation to the replicar market and a replacement for the trouble ridden originals.
Initial Ideation - Although we knew the styling of the product Dynaformance was trying to replicate; these sketches show ideation of a center cover plate to hide any wiring for the fuel injectors, aswell as early air cleaner ideation. The idea was to 'trick' the onlooker into thinking they were looking at old carburetors. The older units were near impossible to keep tuned and have plagued hobbyists since the 1960s.
Until we conquered this task, no-one had ever put a replica style system like this on the market.

Capturing the Product - Capturing the essence of the Weber carburetor in painstaking detail was the mantra behind our finished product. Seen here in brief example; we kept every dimension as close to original as possible. Working with engineers we were able to move from pre-production SLA models, to functional aluminum prototypes, to finished castings. Everything on the original had to be replicated down to hardware and fasteners.
Fuel Line Banjo Fittings - Attention to detail with a functional mindset also made its way into the fuel fittings. This was both an engineering and aesthetic test because the new fuel injected units ran at a much high pressure for delivered gasoline. The fuel line pressure went from around 5-8psi to a minimum of 39psi, with some units seeing over 50 pounds of fuel pressure. Measurements had to be taken to ensure proper sealing as failure at these levels can cause immediate fire hazard.
Exceeding Expectations - While the original Weber carburetors allowed for substantial power gains with their restriction free design; our Classic Fuel Injection units were able to top those flow numbers by a 15% margin. Digital fuel delivery through hidden injectors inside the casing replaced the need for a choke horn inside each runner. The end result was a cleaner look that made even more horsepower.
Market Expansion - The Classic Fuel Injection throttle bodies required the need for a vacuum signal from each runner shared to a common plenum for the electronic software to work correctly. As this fuel delivery signal is crucial to the product working correctly; we refined and recast our own line of high performance intake manifolds using moden technology for the Classic Fuel Injection. An added benefit was the demand for these intakes from the clients still using the older carburetor versions.
Custom Applications - Adapting to modern powerplants, sometimes intake manifolds had to be hand fabricated or made from a CNC process. Shown here are setups for the GM LS1 style, Ford Modular 4v, and Doge 5.3 Hemi engines.
Final Product - The final Classic Fuel Injection product was virtually indistinguishable from the original Weber product externally. The systems saw huge success and demand and are still on shelves today. More information, dyno graphs, specifications, testimonials, videos, and mixed media; can be found at: www.dynaformance.com
