Kente Cloth

Students were introduced to artwork from Ghana. The class discussed how colors can have different meanings in different cultures. For example, the color black is thought to be scary and is used to represent death in Western civilization. However in Ghana, black is used to symbolize maturity and intense spiritual energy.

The students also learned what a "motif" is. They asked to create their own motif and create a pattern from it.
