SmartMat

In response to a “Design Out Shoplifting” brief from the RSA, this product identifies
potential repeat offenders by refining the number of people that staff monitor.
Located at the entrance and pay point, the SmartMat uses biometrics of footprint and plantar pressure to create or recognise a signature step, registering weather an individual has visited with or without
purchase. Over a period of time, this
information is used to build a profile of
potential risk. When a high risk signature is detected at the entrance, staff are
alerted and the individual identified.
An OLED screen was incorporated into the design to utilise the potential for branding and interactive customer displays.
