Systems Design : Saving lives at birth
This is an ongoing live project which is a collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. As part of the 'Saving Lives at Birth' initiative, the aim of this project is to create effective products and systems that would aid in saving millions of maternal and neonatal lives.
The first step was a vigorous clinical immersion which involved traveling and studying top level hospitals like All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Lilavati Trust Hospital, Mumbai and TATA Memorial Hospital, Mumbai as well as numerous health sub centers, aanganwaadi centers, primary health centers and referral hospitals across West Bengal, Maharashtra, Delhi and Bihar. This experience was a huge eye-opener regarding existing gaps and needs in the Indian healthcare setup.
The next step was to decode and understand the vast amount of data and knowledge gained through the clinical immersion in order to arrive at the most vital need that had to be addressed through design.
