Forging Test Specimen Layout
I was contracted by UTC Aerospace Systems to create the model and drawings for test specimen harvested from a forged aluminum part. I was provided the model of the forged part along with a description of areas to avoid.
I created the test specimen layout model to maximize the number of test specimen that could be extracted while ensuring that the specimen are properly oriented relative to the forging grain. The distance between the specimen allows each specimen to be extracted without damaging any adjacent specimens.
