Taking inspiration from the elaborately decorated Koran and vibrant patterns around the City, the covers are hand stitched onto wood veneer, the pages silk screen printed onto Somerset paper, each book hand bound by different means and resting on silk screen printed travel cushions.
3 Days Following - After following www.britishexpats.com for 3 days I noticed in some cases patterns occurred in the subject matter according to location. My findings led to this board book, transforming the virtual conversation into a physical object.
The concept follows threads of conversations held in small concertina books through laser cut holes. The reader can dip in and out to get snippets of information about the expat lifestyle.
Expat Pattern Series - This series of 4 booklets combine the results of an online questionnaire I posted to expats around the world with photographs of another piece of work 'Tails of a Trailing Spouse' a knitted 8 metre type sample based on my experiences as a 'Trailing Spouse' . Each booklet explores a different issue that affects expats.
Bristol Migrants Newspaper - During the week that a poll stating 'almost two thirds of white Britons felt immigration had been bad for the UK' and with the prospect of my home town Bristol becoming a 'City of Sanctuary' for migrants, I took to the streets to learn what kind of welcome immigrants received here.
I spent 1 week visiting 5 locations around the city, interviewing migrants about their experiences.
