Memorial Sloan-Kettering Outpatient Chemotherapy Center - In this project, the symbol “Chai†is used throughout the interior space. The Hebrew word Chai ("life") has a numerical value of 18 based on Gematria. Gematria is a system of assigning numerical value to a word.
The treatment rooms and its elements are all divisible by 18 inches. The etching of branches on the glass wrap around the entire space, creating continuity, rhythm, and serenity. The design provides the patient with a calm atmosphere while undergoing chemotherapy.
