Clever Devices produces remote monitoring and diagnostic systems that manage fleets of municipal transit vehicles such as the public bus fleets in Chicago (CTA) & New York City (MTA). Directors use the software to oversee the fleet and detect maintenance patterns, Managers use it to schedule work and issue instructions, and mechanics use it to learn what is happening on individual vehicles.
Conducting Contextual Inquiries and other field work across several states, we learned the context of stakeholders' vision for the product and surfaced a number of new opportunities.
These were synthesized into user needs patterns in a workshop with stakeholders and prioritized into design goals. Multiple rounds of interaction design and visual design produced a UI that does the right thing in the right way and looks sexy.
