STEP IN SNOWBOARD BINDING

Project: Strewth snowboard binding

Produced for: Design Edge – Industrial design consultants

Brief: Strewth Snowboards required a snowboard binding that reduced the hassle of entry and exit. They wanted the straps to be ‘set and forget’ while still securely holding the boot. They also required the binding to be lightweight, durable and aesthetically striking.

Solution: The Strewth snowboard binding was developed using the stepping motion to power the mechanical binding of the boot. Pressing down with the heel mechanically drives the ankle support into position and tightens the straps over the boot. Releasing a lever springs the ankle support away allowing the boot to step out without loosening the straps. The use of formed aluminium reduced the bindings weight and sized.
