Jack Kerouac and the Writer's Life
Jack Kerouac and the Writer's Life - We wanted to show some film from the beat era. We selected some Charlie Parker footage, as well as some interviews with Jack Kerouac on night-time TV. Here, the projection is visible at the end of the long case showcasing Kerouac's "On the Road" scroll manuscript. All components in the show, except for the scroll & its case, and three large format photos, were created for this and subsequent shows by my fabrication team.
Jack Kerouac and the Writer's Life
Jack Kerouac and the Writer's Life - This is a simple-interactive using a type-writer. Visitors are invited to type a Haiku (instructions above desk) or to write their own Travel story. Kids were surprised these typewriters weren't powered by electricity. The typewriters are Underwoods from Jack Kerouac's era; the curator, Tom Leech, purchased them from E-Bay. Visitors can post their work (next photo) in the gallery. In an adjacent case, they can also view a variety of early typewriters, some pre-dating the "QWERTY" keyboard.
Kerouac, A Writer's Life - Visitors are invited to post their own beat-style haiku or "On-the-Road" story by first typing, and then posting their work on clipboards mounted over graphics on a temporary wall.
