2013_MArch Disign&Production
The desire is to allow architects, artist and designers to experiment with technology and manufacturing processes, under one roof.
The design incorporates a series of machine rooms, like a row of gear teeth, between them assembly spaces, and terraced above: studios and offices - all connected by a crane gantry alongside.
Idea - make - assemble: increasing in scale of production towards the Experimental yard .
The facade to the south would give views across the experimental yard and the railway line, of Woodstock rising up towards Table Mountain. Structural system of the facade is conceived of scaffold sized element, whereby components of design could be attached by use of a series of smaller cranes running along its length.
It is positioned on a site that allows pedestrian access over the railway lines, from Residential/Commercial Woodstock into the industrial realm - the extension of the bridge through the yard and building highlight the varies layers of "Design&Production"
