Starburst Flower Light - Starburst is a moving sculpture and practical light source. The light will actually open like a flower in the morning sunlight, revealing it’s beauty and complexity. This is achieved using Shape Memory Polymers, which can be deformed when heated, but when cooled return back to their original form. The petals are heated with resistance wire, which can be activated by a subtle touch switch on its stem. Two modes allow for two totally different light dispersions. This image has attracted a great deal of media attention and has featured in numerous design journals, it has even made the cover of a magazine, 'Art of England'
NanoFlex - Chair - Concept Sketches - This modern rocking chair utilises the unique properties of the new metal NanoFlex. NanoFlex is a stainless steel, which is stronger than titanium, yet still retains the natural springiness of steel. The chair uses a series of curves to get the most spring out of the metal. The chair has been designed to be bent and rolled from a single rectangular piece to reduce production time and costs. The chair back and seat are rolled to make them more rigid. Nautilus - Heater - A small heater fan, inspired by the nautilus shell. Controlled by a digital thermostat. Turn the dial to select the temperature on the clear display. Nautilus will work to maintain this temperature. The main body would be a two part injection moulded a.b.s plastic, allowing for low cost, high output production.
