The Amazing Body - 2015

The Amazing Body gallery originally opened in 1996. The photo below shows the small entrance the the 20-year-old maze-like exhibit. Major demolition was required to expose the space to the museum’s Grand Hall. The new open-concept layout and bright color scheme created a much more inviting atmosphere.

Several all-new activities were built for the gallery, including: The Heart Wheel - a giant “human hamster wheel” with biometric sensors, Jump-Stretch-Hang to test your physical abilities, Calorie Crank demonstrates how much energy is in food, three Body Slice displays show real internal human anatomy, and the centerpiece is the Giant Beating Heart - a 12 foot tall animatronic sculpture of the human heart that actually beats and features a light and sound show that dramatically simulates a heart attack three times an hour.
