Childhood Obesity-Smart Sports equipment
“Childhood Obesity! How can design help children be more physically active?” The product is a smart Bat used for Rounders and Softball games within schools across England. Using a combination of modern technology and current social trends the bat utilizes a 3-axis accelerometer chip embedded within the handle of the bat which can measure the static acceleration of gravity in tilt-sensing applications, as well as dynamic acceleration resulting from motion, shock, or vibration. With the Bat integrated in schools it not only measures levels activity within children but tallies those levels in the form of credits via the sensors, these credits can then be redeemed for special prizes designated by the school. This also includes a personalized ID wristband for each student, which they can sync with smart phones and receive instant feedback or check and compare results via Facebook and twitter to keep up to date with current statistics from different schools.
