Ultimately decided to move with a spike design rather than stabilizing legs. I started with a 2 piece design, to be 3D printed in high strength polymer.
Moved toward a more economic 1 piece design after discussing the requirements with my mentor.
Final design to be printed in a 1 piece sheet metal sheet with bends. featured a double job in order to secure piece within already established stand design model.

The piece was 3D printed and tested for fitting. The part (to be made of sheet metal) is scheduled to be produced.
