Exhibition Space
ARCH 4478: Design Studio 8
APRIL 2012
This project began with researching the African American quilt makers located in Gee's Bend, Alabama. Many of the quilts are regarded as very valuable so a museum to house and exhibit the myriad of colorful quilts was to be designed. The museum was to be located near the river bank and employ the landscape's contours into the scheme. Visitors would arrive to the quilt exhibition via ferry and a path leading from the river to and through the museum would take them to the lobby and heart of the building. From there visitors would be able to visit numerous galleries, shop in the gift shop or relax at the cafe.
