Overbed Table Redesign
This project redesigned the overbed table to improve maneuverability and usability in hospitals. Traditional tables have bulky bases that obstruct movement and manual height adjustments that require effort, making them inconvenient for patients and staff. The new design features a nightstand-style table with an extendable surface that slides over the bed, eliminating the base extension. It supports up to 100 lbs and uses a motorized height adjustment via a joystick for effortless customization. Smooth-rolling wheels enhance mobility, while integrated storage drawers and built-in charging ports add functionality. Performance testing confirmed stability, smooth movement, and durability. Though manufacturing costs exceed $1,000, the table offers premium functionality. This project earned 2nd place in the interdisciplinary group category at Georgia Tech’s Senior Design Expo, highlighting expertise in mechanical design, user-focused engineering, and collaborative problem-solving.
