Ala Mode Game - The assignment: to design a flash-card game to help a student learn graphic design history. I chose to focus on modernism, called my game "Ala Mode" and included a playing board, game pieces, dice, and multiple modes of play. With the exception of the hourglass, all items shown are handmade and fabricated.

"Design Will Question Beauty" - 35"x50" poster. Assignment: To answer the question "Design will be..." (though those words could not appear on poster). I chose "Design will question beauty." I decided to play with a classic idea of beauty and femininity (florals, etc.) merged with disconnected body parts and sexist imagery. All artwork was hand-drawn.
"Azif" and Classic Typographic Posters - Assignment: To design two posters that "talk" to each other, one in an "Azif" style--where the type is acting 'as if' it were something else (e.g.: the word Photoshop is reflective as if it were an object) and the second in a more classic layout, where the type is simply acting as type. In the first layout, I wanted the composition to be 'so bad it's good' to reflect the content of the quote. In the second, I emphasized an ironic feel. For Typography 1, Fall 2007
Panorama - Assignment: To pick a journey from a point 'A' to a point 'B' and to create a panorama. I chose to document all the bathrooms that I visit in one day. I wanted to play with the idea of how we 'construct' a reality, in this case, how a woman constructs her appearance throughout the day, and also how graphic designers construct reality through their work. For Imaging for Graphic Design 2 class, Spring 2008
Supplement to Meggs' - This was a two part assignment. First, I collaborated with three other students to write two essays: the first on Thomas Nast, and the second on contemporary satirical media. Then I worked individually to design a text-book-type supplement that included the papers we'd written, to be attached to Meggs' History of Graphic Design.

Material Culture Posters - Assignment: To design two posters in the same visual language, one referencing a historical context of an object, and another referencing a modern context of the same object. To be hung in subway stations and bus stops, advertising the "Material Culture" exhibit. In the first poster, I focused on mass production in factories and assembly lines in the Bauhaus era. In the second, I wanted to show how the consumer has literally become 'the factory.' For Graphic Design Studio 1, Fall 2007.
