Swarovski Crystal Vision Designboom Competition with MariaCristina Debenedetti
Hestia - Crystal Heating System (Swarovski Designboom Competition) - The inspiration for this product came from the monolithic stone slab in in the movie Space Odissey. We imagined a post-bellic scenario where the few human and animal survivors gather around a Swarovski crystal monolith giving away heat: a reinterpretation of the ancient fireplace, symbolising home, warmth, family. The recent developments in glass radiator technology make this idea a concrete possibility: a sculptural centerpiece for the home.

Sounds For-Rest - Nature's Crystal Sound System (Swarovski Designboom Competition) - The inspiration for this sound system came from the feeling experienced by walking through a forest where the sounds of nature both relax and lull you. The sound of a butterfly gently flapping her wings; the sound of a squirrel scratching an acorn open; the twitter of nightingales…
The sound system can be installed in the living room or bedroom: up to eight animals, discreetly fixed to the ceiling, the floor and walls, each with a minispeaker playing the sounds transmitted via bluetooth.

Watering Pets - Plant Irrigation Cones with Crystal Stopper (Swarovski Designboom Competition) - The inspiration for this product came from the irrigation ”carrots” used to water house plants when people go on holiday or are away for a few days. The idea was to beautify the insects category that normally hang around plants, elevating them to the status of domestic pets by using crystal: each insect is also a stopper for a terracotta cone filled with water and buried into the plant pot. Terracotta, being porous, slowly releases the water to the plant keeping it beautiful and healthy.
