Backyard Bicycle

Materials: 1" x 20" dowel rod, (4) carriage bolts, a door hinge, heated and formed 1/4" acrylic seat, 10" hand truck wheels and a single sheet of 1/2" birch plywood 2' x 2'.
Process: Research, sketching, perspective drawing, final ideation/ sketching, full scale model built using foam core, drawn in CAD, birch plywood cut out using a CNC ShopBot, sanded, painted, acrylic cut and bent using heat, then assembled for use and display.

The idea was to make a balance bike using primarily one sheet of 1/2" birch plywood, 2' x 2'. My peers said it couldn't be done and I knew it could so to the drawing board I went.
To get the size and shapes of the bike frame pieces I needed I had to design and orient them carefully within my 2' x 2' parameter so that I maximized my design with little waste.

My son who is 2 years old, rides this balance bike every day and absolutely loves it.
