I modelled the digger in Solidworks. I have a small lego digger, identical to this one. I took it apart, measured the parts with a caliper as accurate as possible and modelled and assembled it with Solidworks. The job took me about 2 days. I was plannign to do something like this for a long time, finally I managed to get around it. The nice part of it was that all the parts relate to eachother and they had to be modelled accurately otherwise they wont fit together.
