Calypso Album Redesign

The prompt of this project was to pick any album from any genre, and redesign the front and back covers, as well as the inside the gatefold. I chose Harry Belafonte's iconic 1958 album "Calypso" which sold over 1,000,000 copies worldwide and earned him the title of "the King of Calypso."

The inspiration for my design was a combination of Belafonte's lyrics and Caribbean lifestyle. On the album, he sings mostly about love, family, life, celebration, and the joy in everyday. I could not picture a heavily digital design as the Caribbean is a very mellow destination, populated mostly with small towns and villages, rather than towering cities. The hand-drawn artwork gives the album a genuine and authentic feel, which is the same feeling received through Belafonte's songs.

All the artwork on the album was hand-drawn and then scanned, resized and edited in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
