Redesigned the museum in Arusha, Tanzania. This is an existing museum that was poorly designed. The objective was to use the existing structure as much as possible while making this an learning experience for all races and languages by incorporating: touch, smell, hearing, and sight.
Redesigned the museum in Arusha, Tanzania. This is an existing museum that was poorly designed. The objective was to use the existing structure as much as possible while making this an learning experience for all races and languages by incorporating: touch, smell, hearing, and sight.
Visual Narrative.
Displays the way in which a visitor would walk through the museum. Starts from the beginning of man and moves through time toward the exit of the museum. Fire is centralized indicating the change in human development.

The major displays as one would walk through the museum: informative text; time line display in order of artifacts found in each layer of earth; bone display- hung from wire track; actual replicated man from that time zone; cave paintings; habitat display; earth layers with a shelf displaying what was found at that layer in the earth.

Sequential Perspective View: Entrance.
An open and inviting entrance with large windows allowing natural sunlight to enter. The map of Africa displays geographical areas related to the development of man.
Sequential Perspective View::1.5 - 1.8 Million Years Ago.
Incorporated interactive displays with hanging models of bones found from this time period: touch
Sequential Perspective View:: 700,000- 600,000 years ago.
The turning point of man's development was the founding of fire. The Red Glowing Box representing fire emits sound (crackling fire), smell (burning wood), and touch (a hot surface).
Sequential Perspective View:: Cave.
The change in warmer colors represents light (after man found fire). After this time, man started doing cave paintings which can be seen and touched as walking through a replicated cave.
Sequential Perspective View:: Dlorama and Exit.
A replicated environment of when man started to walk up right is displayed as you head towards the exit. The right side displays new findings and future exhibit displays.
Sequential Perspective View:: Cafe and Gift shop.
Outside of the museum incorporates layers of steps, which allows visitors to enjoy the cafe/ gift shop and relax outside.
