Digbeth Occupier Handbook

Working with fellow designer James Orlowsky, our task was to design a handbook for tenants at Oval properties in the Custard Factory area, communicating key contacts, guidelines, and information. Digbeth is a hub for the creative industries and draws a variety of creative professionals to live in the area.

Using the iconic Digbeth Sans typeface and the chosen colour palette of black, white, and copper, we were to bridge together the bold, clean branding of the Custard Factory along with the gritty, creative Digbeth aesthetic.

The reoccurring shapes used in the handbook are inspired by patterns observed around the Custard Factory: the square pattern from the reception of the Custard Factory accommodation, and the ovals from the well-known balconies of the same building. Furthermore, the rips and paper textures are inspired by the many posters advertising music, performances, and exhibitions in the area.
