Mariposario bookshelf

Mariposario is a sustainable modular and reconfigurable cedar bookshelf.
Inspired by butterflies and Oaxaca´s forests, the goal of the project is to help support local communities by giving other means of income through the improvement of their product`s positioning in national and international markets. Being a sustainable design, it is ecologically friendly and economically plausible.
It is a response to the economic, social and ecological needs of the zone of production.
The result was a simple design made out of medium quality wood: rose cedar. Taking into account the economic and social aspects of the project, the cedar should come from a coffee plantation and planned in a long-term ten year program.
The final product is simple, easily manufactures with common workshop tools, easy to clean and reusable for when the product´s life has come to an end. It uses natural wax and oils instead of varnish to enhance the smell and streak of the wood in an eco-friendly manner.
