M-tech
M-tech is a diagnostic device concept that aims to improve on Tuberculosis (TB) detection process in Ghana. In an interdisciplinary team, we set of to study TB diagnostic landscape in Kumasi and applied User Centered Research to learn about the tasks involved, uncover unmet needs for all stakeholders and decipher pain points in the detection process. As a result, M-tech is a device that brings the highly sensitive TB diagnostic process present in laboratory settings to the smaller, less equipped clinics. Since not everyone in Ghana has access to the hospital, our device brings TB diagnosis closer to the communities. It receives an ordinary sputum sample, adds decontamination and concentration processes in order to increase bacterial density and then uses optical spectrometry to identify TB cells in the sample. It's user friendly interface, power-efficient design is a viable tool proposal for the fight against TB.
