An eveningwear collection using a piece of artwork and a city as inspiration.
My chosen work of art was a whimsical, colorful depiction of a post-earthquake scene in Japan. Inspired by the results of natural disaster, I chose the Emerald City from Wizard of Oz as my second source of inspiration. The concept developed into the story of a Geisha who gets caught in a tornado and is transported to the magical world of Oz.
I utilized traditional Japanese silhouettes and textiles, the windblown, twisted movement of a tornado and the whimsical elements of the Wizard of Oz to design an evening wear collection ideal for the modern woman. From wedding gowns to cocktail dresses, each look is suitable for a different occasion in a woman’s life, and each features a transformative aspect, making the collection both interesting and versatile.
