Dart Lounger - A simple dart made in sheet metal can create the curvature needed for the seat of a lounge chair. The legs reinforce the cinching motion of the dart. 67” x 28” x 27” Mild steel sheet and rod Auto laquer
Inside Star/Outside Star - This bent lamination piece was inspired by the lamination process of Alvar Alto’s bent wood L legs. The piece invites the viewer to discover the relationship of interior and exterior spaces through curvature and geometry. small - 15” x 15” x 4.5” medium -18” x 18” x 5” large - 20” x 20” x 5.5” pear wood veneer maple wood veneer baltic birch plywood laquer finish
The Felt Pelt is an industrial version of the sheepskin rug sans the skin. The project used a texture discovered in other felt experiments to create a unique surface. The pattern was developed by plotting an undulating grid of various diameter holes that references the shape of a sheep’s body. I then alternatively sewed the holes closed. 52” x 31“ .25” recycled wool felt thread
Paper Structures - Complex forms arise from cutting and bending note cards. 3.5” x 6” large size note cards
Using a 3-D modeling program to interpret the grayscale image of an old photo of my father, I created a computer-generated model of his face. I then rapid prototyped the computer model and slip cast it in porcelain to create a children’s night light. 6.5” x 6.5” x 3.5” Slip cast porcelain 60 watt light bulb Electrical cord
Artificial Plant - Part of the Artificial Home Project. Using the plastic sheet as material I used pop-up technology to reinforce the idea of growing plants. small- 8” x 8”x 14” large- 12” x 12” x 24” acrylic polyethelene rubber snaps
Seasonally Sensitive Wall Panel - Sometimes the seasons change without us really noticing. One day you wake up and suddenly the weather is fall. Using a remote temperature sensor connected outdoors, this wall panel displays the season, not the temperature. 36” x 60” x 1.75” electro-luminescent wire acrylic sheet micro processor temperature sensor digitally printed trans sheet
Artificial Fireplace - Part of the Artificial Home project. The fireplace separates from the wall and becomes its own object. The mantle is made useful as the fireplace tilts away from the wall and the draft angle from vacuum forming becomes parallel to the floor. The form is made using heat which is an ironic reference to the warmth an artificial fireplace cannot create. 68” x 42”x 7” Vacuum formed .25” white polystyrene
