Spider Silk Footwear
First try at designing a shoe. The SpiderSilk Footwear is inspired from a spider silk presentation by Dr. Cheryl Hayashi’s on TED Talk. The silk is a new high-performance material currently being developed by scientists. Spider silk is made out of a protein produced by spiders and has shown many exciting features such as being light weight, flexible, having good extendibility and being very durable.
This new material was the inspiration for my design of a running footwear which leverages the qualities of Spider Silk. Various spider motifs were referenced to create a visual tie-in between the design and its application of material.
