I am a young at heart designer looking for a company willing to take a chance on new talent! - I am who you're looking for! Over the years I have developed a great work ethic as well as developed a good sense of discipline. This plus the skills I have honed over the 4 years I have spent studying design at Auburn University will make me a great asset to any organization seeking a designer.
Lighting Design - I chose to design a source of ambient mood lighting. After researching different lighting sources, and contructing numerous form models, I arrived at this design, which was inspired by Asian religions. Light from LEDs is "piped" through the clear plastic to provide a cool and relaxing blue light. Materials: Cherry Wood (base and center LED housing) Aluminum (support structure) Spectar Plastic (light diffuser) LED Bulbs (blue; housed in center structure) Top Left - Rough Ideation Drawing Bottom Middle - 3D Computer Rendering Right - Final Working Prototype
Corporate Identity and Packaging Project - Over the course of the Corporate Identity and Packaging project, I was assigned the task of designing an identity for a company based on the products they would sell. After I developed a logo, letterhead, and business card design for the hypothetical corporation, I had to design packaging to fit within the corporate image and be aesthetically pleasing. The products I chose to define my company’s image were darts and dart accessories, from the popular pub game. I reflected the sport of darts through the “bulls-eye logo” as to tie the company to the product visually. The packaging was designed to be strong and sturdy, while reflecting the same, simple geometry as the company logo. The packaging was designed to hold dart flights, a dart accessory. Left - Final Company LogoTop Right - Packaging Concept 1Bottom Right - Packaging Concept 2
Furniture Design Part I - In this exercise, I was to design and build a piece of RTA (ready to assemble) furniture that fit a certain size and weight criteria. I chose to design an end table that would be a part of a matching set (2 end tables and a coffee table). Top Left - Rough Ideation Sketch Bottom Left - Thumbnail Concept Drawing Right - Refined Concept Sketch
Furniture Design Part II - The completed furniture project included one ready to assemble kit, packaging to ship the kit safely, and a completed and finished example of the product. My product proved easy to ship and easy to assemble by the consumer and able to withstand the rigors of everyday use. Materials: Poplar wood (legs and top support) Cherry wood (center connector) Glass (top) Top Left - Concept Sketch Lower Center - Finished Shipping Packaging Right - Finished/Assembled Table
One of my favorite design exercise in university was hand illustrating products with pencil and ink. While time consuming, I absolutely loved the manual work and results!
3D Concept Design - In late 2003 I played around a little with a POP display design for carpet doormats for a freelance gig! I started with rough pencil and pen sketches before using MicroStation 3D to render my design ideas.
Variation 1 - POS Carpet doormat display.
