The breadboard squirts water from a pump to propel the balls from the wire tray.
Concept Ideation
The first design prototype was a funky looking submarine that lacked character.
The second design prototype started to develop character, but had strange proportions that wouldn't fit in the child's small hands.
Digital hand rendering for the final design prototype.
Final Prototype: Fizzlin' Fiske
When Fizzlin' Fiske is submerged, the water level pushes the ball upward and pops it into position to fire. The child can slam down on Fiske's pump action to squirt the ball into the air.
Fizzlin' Fiske's torpedo thrusters spin when you drag them through the water.

Fizzlin' Fiske: Children's Bath Toy Design

Fizzlin’ Fiske is an adorable bath companion for Children ages 1.5 to 3 years old. Fiske puts the child in the captains seat as they launch plastic balls at their friends, parents, or targets of imagination. The intention of my design was to create a fun bath toy that was versatile and sparked imagination. Fizzlin’ Fiske is equally named after Bradley Fiske, the inventor of the aerial torpedo in 1912, and the chemical phenomenon of effervescence. Where gas escapes from a liquid causing it to bubble.

This project was part of sophomore industrial design studio at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Over several weeks, we learned to sculpt and prototype in blue foam, Integrate the functionality of our breadboard mechanism into our final design, and Design for the intended consumer audience.
